Ayacucho Fútbol Club, more popularly known as Ayacucho, is a Peruvian professional football club located in Ayacucho, Peru. The club won a Second Division title in 2006, and as Inti Gas, the club finished as runner-up in 2008. The club currently participates in the Peruvian Primera División, after being reinstated by winning a judicial battle against the Peruvian Football Federation. History Beginnings Ayacucho FC, then known as Olímpico San Luis, was promoted to the Second Division in 2000. The following year they changed the club name to Olímpico Somos Peru. In 2004 they won the Second Division and played in the finals of the Copa Perú to gain promotion, however they lost to Deportivo Municipal in the quarter-finals. Estadio Ciudad de Cumaná was a multi-purpose stadium in Ayacucho, Huamanga, Peru. It was used mostly for football matches and was the home stadium of Ayacucho FC of the Peruvian Primera División and Deportivo Municipal de Huamanga of the Copa Perú. Alonso is a Spanish name of Germanic origin that is a Castilian variant of ''Adalfuns''. The original Visigothic name ''Alfonso'' suffered the phonetic change of the phoneme /f/ into the mute /h/ in the Early Middle Ages (around 9th Century), what eventually suppressed the sound /f/ from the name, deriving in the modern form ''Alonso''. Huanta is a town in Central Peru, capital of the province Huanta in the region Ayacucho. History In the era of the Spanish American wars of independence, Huanta remained loyal to the Spanish monarch Ferdinand VII and the viceroy of Peru designated it the "Loyal and Invincible ''Villa'' of Huanta", a source of pride for the residents. Huanta and the province was the site of a major rebellion (1825–28) against the newly formed Peruvian state. The 2022 Liga 1 de Fútbol Profesional (known as the Liga 1 Betsson 2022 for sponsorship reasons) was the 106th season of the Peruvian Primera División, the highest division of Peruvian football.
